Our Services
Our Hormone Therapy Services in Chesterfield, MO
Smart Age STL provides bioidentical hormone pellet therapy for men and women in Chesterfield and the greater St. Louis area. Hormones affect nearly every system in the body — energy, mood, sleep, and focus among them — so when levels drop, it can be hard to feel like yourself. Our team, led by Judy Smart, RN, BSN, works with each patient individually: lab work first, then a conversation about your symptoms, then a treatment plan built around what your body actually needs.
Hormone pellet therapy uses small, rice-grain-sized pellets placed just under the skin. The pellets release hormone gradually over several months, which is different from a daily pill or cream. Below, explore pellet therapy in general, or go directly to our dedicated pages for men’s testosterone replacement therapy or women’s hormone therapy.

Understanding Hormone Decline
Testosterone is an important hormone for both men and women — not just for physical strength, but for energy and overall sense of wellbeing. Many women see testosterone levels begin to decline in their early 40s, sometimes sooner after ovary-removal surgery. Men often notice a similar decline starting in their 50s, though it can happen earlier for some.
Estradiol is the other hormone most commonly addressed in women’s treatment plans. Levels drop with age, and can drop more suddenly after surgical removal of the ovaries. Many women connect low estradiol to hot flashes, mood changes, sleep trouble, migraines, low sex drive, and vaginal dryness — though every person’s experience is different, and these symptoms can have other causes too, which is why lab work is part of every treatment plan.
Important information
- Bioidentical hormone pellets are compounded — a licensed pharmacy prepares them to match an individual prescription. They are not a mass-manufactured, one-size-fits-all product.
- Compounded bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT) is not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review the safety or effectiveness of compounded medications the same way it reviews FDA-approved drugs.
- Pellet therapy requires lab work and ongoing clinical supervision. It is not a one-time treatment — dosing is adjusted based on follow-up labs and how you are responding.
- Results and timelines vary by individual. What one patient experiences is not a guarantee of what you will experience.
The Process
How Treatment Works
- 1
Consultation & Labs
We start with a conversation about your symptoms and goals, along with lab work to check your current hormone levels.
- 2
A Plan Built Around You
Judy and the team review your labs and history to put together a treatment plan — pellet therapy, in most cases — sized to what your body needs.
- 3
Insertion & Follow-Up
Pellets are inserted during a brief in-office visit. Most patients return for follow-up labs, and new pellets if needed, every 3 to 6 months.
